A ST MICHAEL MAN who reportedly told police he intended to commit suicide last Friday morning was still fighting for his life at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital yesterday after ingesting a weedkiller.

Police sources said the man was wanted for questioning in connection with a matter involving his girlfriend when the incident occurred last Friday.

Reports also indicated that following the suicide threat, later the same morning the man was spotted by an off-duty police officer attempting to drink a poisonous substance in a City hardware store.

When the officer approached him, the man darted through the store and headed towards nearby Marhill Street where he reportedly mixed the poisonous substance with a soft drink before consuming the mixture. (TS)
