ONE COMMUNITY PHARMACIST is expressing concern that he now sells more pregnancy test kits than condoms.

His concern comes as a number of pharmacists reported good sales of condoms, sexual stimulants and the two erectile dysfunction drugs, Viagra and Cialis, year round, but with peaks during this holiday period.

The pharmacist, who requested anonymity, said his business sold more than 40 test kits, each costing about $16, a month. Those who came in were usually young women not normally seen in the pharmacy.

“It means the safe sex message is not reaching them, or they are ignoring it,” said the veteran pharmacist, who warned that sexually transmitted infections, including HIV, still abounded.

He reasoned that these young women might come into his pharmacy as it was located on a busy street and might not be from his immediate catchment area.
