ABOUT TEN MORE WORKERS from the Barbados Port Inc. will be on the breadline by the end of this week.

In disclosing the latest exodus of workers via voluntary severance yesterday, chief executive officer David Jean-Marie said it was part of an ongoing retrenchment exercise, which started in April 2014. The price tag for the separations so far was in the vicinity of $4 million.

This new batch of separations joins the more than 100 people who left the company between April 2014 and yesterday, and no additions have been made to the staff complement in the interim.

“All persons would have left with their entitlements. We would have ensured that they were counselled accordingly, because we intend not to throw people under the bus, so to speak. We want to keep a good relationship with our former employees, as well as our retirees and existing pensioners,” Jean-Marie said.

The port boss said workers’ representatives were engaged regarding the retrenchment process, to date. (YB)
