JAMES JOHNSON finally played a sound round of golf on the final day of the final day of the Garry Sobers Championships, sound enough to wrest the title from last year’s champion Scott Stollmeyer.

Johnson returned a modest four over par 76 but it was enough to hold off the fading pack. His total of 302 was nine shots clear of a fast finishing Clint Alfred, whose 73 on the Durants Course edged him ahead of Stollmeyer, who shot a disastrous 81 –12 behind Johnson.

Former Manchester United footballer Dwight Yorke and compatriot Jonathan Millen both shot 77 to complete the leader board.

Meanwhile, Pauline Raynor completed a post-to-post victory. Her 81 on the championship course surged her 23 shots clear of second placed Julia Stevenson, whose 90 allowed her to finish on 341. (PR/EZS)
