Voters list concern

THE ELECTORAL PROCESS in Barbados is being compromised, according to the Opposition Barbados Labour Party (BLP).

Bishop Joseph Atherley, the BLP nominee for St Michael West, said the last general election was won and lost along the Bank Hall corridor separating his constituency from St Michael Central. However, the former MP said that in the 2013 election he got more votes than in 2008 and his opponent got less votes in 2013 than in 2008, but still won the seat.

While insisting that it was not a case of “sour grapes”, Atherley charged there had been padding of the voters’ lists. He made the call for the lists to be made available to the candidates well in advance of the elections, and not two or three days before.

Speaking on Sunday at a joint branch meeting of the St Michael Central and West branches held at his Advent House, Bank Hall Main Road constituency office, Atherley said it was critical for the BLP to pay special attention to both constituencies. (LK)
