Alleyne, still playing professionally in England for the Brighton Bears, missed out on national duty in 2004 when Barbados placed second in the Caribbean championships in Cuba, and two months later at the Centro Basket Tournament in the Dominican Republic.
Still considered the region's best player, Alleyne will add a much needed presence in the paint for an international competition, along with another recall, Sidney "Bouncer" Rowe, who was also unavailable in 2004 but was named in the 12-man line-up released
by the Barbados Amateur Basketball Association yesterday.
The team will once again be captained by power-forward Victor Payne, one of three players now based in the United States. The other United States-based players are Dean Browne, who made his debut in aquamarine and gold in Cuba, and Dale Worrell, who will make his debut in Australia next month.
Thanks to their second-placed finish behind hosts Cuba in 2004, Barbados were given a special invitation by the Commonwealth Games Committee, since they were the highest ranked team from this hemisphere which was a member of the Commonwealth.
Along with the United States-based Worrell, the only other player representing his country for the first time will be shooting-forward Jason Smith of the Station Hill Cavaliers, one of the country's best Premier League shooters over the past two seasons.
Two other players recalled to national duty for the Australia trip are point-guard Peter Alleyne and small-forward Adrian Stewart, two former Mr Basketballers who found back their form playing Intermediate Division basketball for British American Jackson.
Big men Andre Boadu and Kelvin Patterson-Browne, as well as shooting guards Jeremy Gill and Zahir Motara, who were part of the silver-medal team in Cuba, retained their places in the team.
The squad will again be coached by former national player Nigel Lloyd, who has held the top position for the past three years. He is also a coach with the pro-British Basketball League and will again be assisted by former national centre, Dwight Rouse.
Francis Williams, a former national point-guard is the team's manager, and Adrian Craigwell the trainer.
Barbados have been grouped along with England, New Zealand and South Africa in Pool B, and play England in their first match on March 16.
