THE IMPOSING JUDICIAL CENTRE should be completed in early 2008.

Chief Justice Sir David Simmons made this disclosure yesterday while addressing a cross-section of judges and Registry staff at a one-week case management course at Sherbourne Centre.

He said construction was on stream for the official opening, heralding a modern judicial system.

"As far as my information goes, it is on schedule for completion very early in 2008," Sir David said.

In October 2003, former Attorney-General Mia Mottley turned the sod to start construction of the multi-million dollar complex.

At the time, she said construction would take two years to complete.

The centre, located on 5.4 acres of land bought from CLICO, will house the Supreme Court as well as an itinerant court for the Caribbean Court of Justice.

It will also be home to three civil courts, one family court, chambers for 16 judges including the Chief Justice, sections for jurors, police and probation services, a law library and the Community Legal Services Department. (JW)
