DOMINION produced a dazzling performance on Saturday night, whipping the Trinidad & Tobago Defence Force (TTDF) 6-2 in the men's final to bring the 21st Banks International Hockey Festival to a fitting close.
The Café Blue-sponsored unit, in their 10th year, captured their third title in the past four years with a display of fast-paced, skilful hockey that swept their Trinidadian opponents aside.
Jamar Small's potent drag flick from a penalty corner gave the local side a 1-0 lead as early as the fifth minute.
But Nicholas Wren, TTDF's headliner, levelled ten minutes later with an equally clinical finish from another short corner.
The first half ended 1-1 but Dominion turned on the pressure in the second 35 minutes, much to the delight of the Bajan crowd.
The teenaged Small added his second after a delightful move down the right to put Dominion ahead for good.
Rodney Legall, Ryan Drayton and Paul Reid, all of whom worried the TTDF defence throughout the match with their pace and silky-smooth skills, also got on the scoresheet within a seven-minute spell that sealed the championship.
Wren brought back some respectability with his second, a reverse stick effort that crept in at the far post.
But Dominion made sure they ended it in in style when diminutive defender Omari Drakes pounced on a loose ball and slapped home from close range.
The Dominion bench was celebrating long before the end but the champagne and the lap of honour had to wait until the final whistle.
For TTDF, who have been the Festival's most prolific visitors over the 21 tournaments, it was double disappointment after their mixed team went down to ABC earlier on Saturday.
ABC, despite being dethroned as men's champs with a penalty shoot-out defeat to Dominion in the semis, lifted two trophies, adding the women's crown to the mixed title.
Old Gold Roosters emerged as the veterans champions earlier in the week.
