MOTORSPORT LOVERS now have the opportunity to get close to their favourite drivers and "feel the action" during Sunday's Barbados Auto Racing League's (BARL) Williams Industries-sponsored International Race Meeting at the Bushy Park racing circuit.

The organisers of the event have designed a special section near the pit and close to the track where around 500 fans will have "box seats".

The section has been specially designated for the real lovers of the sport, one organiser told NATIONSPORT yesterday. This section will have a special bar where fans can get refreshments and food.

"We have some lovers of the sport who are real aficionados and they often like to get really close to the action. Unfortunately, for some of them, they are not part of the pit crews nor are they part of an official team, so this special area will most likely be for them," the official noted.

"There will be the other usual spots on the hill and in the clubhouse for the general audience. We believe we will have another large crowd on Sunday and all is being put in place to ensure safety and comfort," he added.

"Safety is a priority; we want to make sure that everyone enjoys themselves, with safety first on the list."

Over 20 000 spectators are expected to make the trek to Bushy Park. This year's meet has attracted cars from Cayman Islands, Antigua, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad, and Guyana.

As part of the upgrade of the facility, there will also be a large pit area to accomodate the large pit crews for the more than 70 cars starting on Sunday.

Workers were busy yesterday afternoon putting up temporary fences around the pit and around the special standing area for fans.
