Corporate Barbados fully supported the fund-raising cause which benefited the Barbados Cancer Society by providing the funds to purchase a state-of-the-art machine for breast screening.
Eighteen teams took part in the day's event. A $250 000 Audi TT car was at stake for any golfer who scored a "Hole in One" on the 18th hole of the layout.
Addressing the participants gathered after the day's play at Sandy Lane Golf Club, president of the Barbados Cancer Society Dr Shirley Jhagroo said three new cases of breast cancer were diagnosed each week and one life per week was lost as a result of breast cancer in Barbados.
Jhagroo added that even though breast cancer affected mostly women, men the world over were also at risk of developing breast cancer.
Chief executive officer of McEnearney/Quality Inc. Mark Hamilton, said the tournament was the ideal opportunity for his company to support the Barbados Cancer Society and to give back something to the society
in which they operated.
Also attending the inaugural tournament was president and chief executive officer of the ANSA McAL (Barbados) Limited group of companies, David Inglefield who, along with the marketing specialist for Audi in the Caribbean Albanya Rodriquez, presented a cheque worth $47 080 to Jhagroo. (CH)
