to this year from Tone Def Studios.
And this year means this morning, as the studio, headed by Blood, has released the 17 tracks from the album Blood Ties on Jon Doe's Morning Mayhem show on HOTT 95.3 radio station.
Blood, real name Anderson Armstrong, told the WEEKEND NATION on Wednesday he had done a lot less work this year than in 2007, when he produced more than 60 songs.
This season he has done "not more than 25".
"I told people to come early," he said. "I had to cut off by the end of March because of my involvement in Macbeth. Through working early the approach was more professional, with less rushing."
His own album is entitled Dat Is What I Talking Bout and includes a track Dis Is Fete, featuring Blood and Tara Holdipp.
The compilation album from Tone Def this season features, among others, Pong, Contone, Katalyst, De 2, Mikey and a newcomer whom Blood describes as "the surprise female artiste for 2008", Windchaser.
"I am totally happy with the results," Blood said. He added he told his artistes to avoid the "paralysis of analysis" and "just go with the flow it will happen".
There is no compilation from Undaground Studios this year and while producer Darron Grant "couldn't swear" if krosfyah would be doing an album, band member Tony Rebel Bailey confirmed they would be.
Grant said he was involved with individual projects and could give no single release date.
Artistes have been bringing more fast-paced songs than slower ones, Grant said, which he described as "a bit weird", since he usually gets more ragga soca-type songs.
Among those recording with Undaground this year are Sickie, whose Bad Man Wukkin' Up was large in the dance last season. This year he has brought the Sickie character again.
Adrian Duchin, soca monarch of Guyana who sang with krosfyah last season, is also recording with Undaground.
Nard, whose Tempo was a hit last year and brought him second place in the People's Monarch competition staged by Starcom Network, is sounding "quite different but still Nard", Grant told the WEEKEND NATION.
Deepu Panjwani's Lethal Studios is producing a compilation album entitled Mouja Vibz, which Panjwani described as "not really a Crop-Over recording".
"This recording will go way beyond Crop-Over," he said. "We're just using Crop-Over as an opportunity to launch."
The album showcases a wide variety of talent and genres, with Kite, featuring Billy Kincaid; Karishma; David Kirton; Kimberley Inniss and Peter Ram.
Panjwani announced the debut of "two Africans" here for Crop-Over, Mr Abacu and Mr Fakaroo.
The album, which the producer says has "six or seven" different rhythms rather than the two he usually features, has "a lot more music", he said.
Release is set for the first week of June.
