Keeper Browne still under watch

BARBADOS WICKET-KEEPER/BATSMAN Patrick Browne remains on the injury list and a decision will be made early next week as to whether or not he will be able to make the trip to Guyana for the KFC Cup West Indies One-Day Tournament.

The 25-year-old St Catherine player has been struggling with a groin injury and coach Hendy Springer said yesterday he would be monitored on a "day-to-day" basis.

Browne did not participate in yesterday's beach training session at Brandon's Beach and is not expected to play in today's warm-up match against the Combined Universities and Colleges at Kensington Oval at 9:30 a.m.

Carlo Morris of Carib Carlton, a powerful strokemaker who did a creditable job behind the stumps in the Stanford 20/20 last year, will do the glovework today. Opening batsmen Wayne Blackman and Martin Nurse are also capable keepers.

Springer said, however, he expected that Browne, the West Indies "A" team gloveman, would be ready for the tournament. The coach said he had been receiving treatment for about two weeks and the reports had been good.

Browne is the No.1 keeper in the team and has played 45 first-class matches. Apart from his clean glovework he can also bat at the top of the order. He has held the job since Courtney Browne retired two seasons ago.
