Accused of being a cradle snatcher
Published on: 5/7/08.

Dear Christine,

I AM 22, divorced (won't go into the sad details) and have one child.

For some time now I have been friendly with a very mature young man who is only 18. We both want to marry and we don't mind the age gap. But I get so upset when I am accused of cradle- snatching and know that people are making remarks behind my back.

Christine, do you think I should go ahead and risk gossip that could affect my daughter in the future. Thanks for any advice you can give and please let me hear from you either in the MIDWEEK or WEEKEND NATION, which are the ones we get.

Dear I.L.,

The fact is there's hardly any age difference. Four measly years – that's all. If people are considering you a cradle snatcher they must really have very little else to talk about!

Of course your daughter won't be affected, except that it will be nice for her to have a father figure about the house.
