EVEN the police are concerned about the traffic changes at the Wildey, St Michael triangle and have asked contractors 3S SRL to provide signage and better indicators along the route.
And these should be in place by today, according to project manager George Siddall.
On Tuesday, a police traffic team took time out to observe how motorists were coping with the changes. They found that some people were still driving straight through Wildey and making right turns to businesses along the road instead of turning left by the Y junction at Texaco.
In addition, they found that motorists were also not complying with signs along Observatory Road, Clapham, St Michael and that the left lane by the roundabout near to the Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic (SJPP) was proving to be a headache.
Temporary changes
Lawmen also urged the contractors to put a barrier at the bottom of Wildey Road where the traffic lights used to be.
Police spoke to Michael Seddon, senior supervisor at 3S, and pointed out that he was very receptive to their ideas to provide signage along the route.
When contacted, Siddall said they had already approached the sign manufacturers and hopefully by today, they should be installed. However, he said he was somewhat surprised that people were not complying with the changes.
"I find it a little bit strange that with the awful lot of indicators, that people are driving straight through and not turning left," he said while pointing out that the left turn by the roundabout near to SJPP was not in use.
Siddall also explained that the changes were temporary but he could not say how long they would be in place.
Asked if the contractors were making way for flyovers, he said the flyovers were part and parcel of the project, but pointed out that the "new administration was yet to arrive at a decision" pertaining to them.
However, he said the changes at the Wildey triangle were to facilitate the construction phase of the operations which included the flyovers.
