Gera-Tec Maxwell regained the lead, Mackeson Triple Stoute Brittons Hill stumbled and Claytons Kola Tonic Notre Dame survived an early scare. All this action took place on Sunday at the YMCA, as the Digicel Premier League continued.
Pride of Gall Hill crawled out of the relegation area with a hard fought 1-0 win over Brittons Hill in the feature match of the night. Former youth team striker Ryan Griffith scored his second goal of the season in the 16th minute, when he received a perfect through pass from Jason Goodridge, and like a true goalscorer, calmly slotted it past custodian Wayne Williams.
Brittons Hill searched for that important equaliser and thought they had it, but forward Arantes Lawrence was adjudged to be offside.
Brittons Hill clearly dominated the match and created many opportunities, but national goalkeeper Omari Eastmond was in sublime form, making countless saves to deny Lawrence and striking partner Walton Burrowes.
Gall Hill almost doubled their lead before half-time, and again it was the Griffith-Goodridge combination. However, Williams made a fantastic save to maintain the scoreline into the second half.
Little fireworks
The second half produced little fireworks except for one controversial moment in the closing stages of the match. A floating free kick by skipper Gregory "Lalu" Goodridge was met by Curtis Blackman who headed the ball in the far corner, but again Gall Hill successfully employed the offside trap.
Gall Hill moved into fifth position on 12 points, while Brittons Hill slipped one place down to third, remaining on 15 points.
At 6 p.m. Gera-Tec Maxwell moved up to 17 points and into first place after a scrappy and lacklustre encounter with Mpact Graphix Haggatt Hall.
A foul-up by custodian Leibert Stephenson gave Ricky Barnes the opportunity in the 83rd minute and the prolific goalscorer did what he does so well, easily slotting the ball into the centre of the net after Stephenson completely lost his position and offered an open goal.
In the opening encounter, perennial rivals Paradise and Claytons Kola Tonic Notre Dame drew 1-1, with Kent Hall opening the scoring in the 12th minute. National skipper Norman Forde, scoring in his third successive game, equalised for the Dames in the 33rd minute.
Dames slipped one place to second position on 16, while Paradise maintain fourth position on 13 points.
