Construction should start in another month or two near St Philip's Parish Church.
Chairman of the Barbados Diocesan Trustees, Hartley Richards, announced the building plan yesterday during a news conference at the church's headquarters in Henry's Lane, St Michael.
He said the church was moving from just selling land to building homes, utilising its lands.
However, he dismissed claims that the church had vast lands that could be put into housing, saying: "The amount of land that we have available is extremely limited . . . ."
Richards added the church was working with an unidentified partner to construct the houses. Details as to the sizes and prices would be announced in due course, he reported.
He also said that land in St Thomas would be developed by the church.
The church was also working with Government to sell tenantry land to renters, Richards noted. Recently, the Ministry of Housing said it would be sold for as little as ten cents per square foot. (TY)
