Former national champ FIDE master Dr Philip Corbin dropped a point by default to Shamel Howell when he was unable to attend. He will have his work cut out for him to return to contention.
In the featured clash Delisle Warner took on The Lodge School's Martyn Del Castilho in an interesting match that lived up to its billing. Martyn came out of the opening with active pieces but Warner slowly pressed them back.
Warner's queen-side pressure then created chances against the king when Martyn overlooked a tactical twist and was forced to resign. Coach Mr Farley was up against another top junior in Under-20 champion, Wendell Meusa.
Meusa has not looked himself yet in this tourney and stumbled again after losing a pawn early.
Junior chess was finally served however, when Alex "Wonder-Boy" Jackman struck against Michael Barker. Barker seemed to have all the play after launching a king-side assault but overlooked some opportunities. After simplifications Jackman's pieces came to life and he swept through the defence for the point.
Under-16 junior champ Justin Blackman was not as lucky against veteran Othneil Harewood and was held to a draw in a very close game. This emerging rivalry saw both men give it everything until only kings remained! After the game both could be seen trying to convince spectators that they were winning.
The battle of presidents saw current BCF president Dr Kumar Areti gain revenge over Allan Herbert in a well played game.
