BERMUDA ARE QUIETLY CONFIDENT of securing an automatic berth into next year's Digicel Caribbean Cup Football finals in Trinidad.

They revived their hopes of finishing in the top 2 places in Group G after a 4-0 drubbing of The Bahamas at the National Stadium on Tuesday night.

Forward Khano Smith scored twice as the Bermudans led 3-0 in the first half hour, and rebounded from a 3-0 defeat to St Vincent and the Grenadines in their first match. The victory eliminated Bahamas, and set the stage for the match-up against Barbados at 8 p.m. today.

The top 2 teams qualify for the finals, while the third-placed team joins the third placed finishers from the other two second round groups in a playoff for the final place.

"I wouldn't say the pressure is on. We want to get that second spot, that's what we are fighting for, or first spot. We know that we lost our first game but our main goal is to get to Trinidad," said head coach Kyle Lightbourne.

On Tuesday they went ahead in the sixth minute when they were awarded a penalty kick after a handled ball in the area. The left-footed Smith, who plays for Major League soccer team the New England Revolution, nonchalantly buried the spot kick.

Smith troubled the Bahamians with his powerful runs wherever he popped up. Captain John Barry Nusum scored an easy header from a corner in the 17th minute to make it 2-0, and Smith capitalised on a suicidal back-pass to make it 3-0 in the 28th.

With three minutes remaining, Kwame Steede received the ball at the edge of the area after a good buildup, then flicked the ball to himself and volleyed home.
