Car takes plunge at Enterprise

MIAMI BEACH bathers found themselves swimming with more than just fish yesterday morning.

They had a car for company.

Caterer Hamilton Hendy, 58, of Sea Rocks, Enterprise, Christ Church, had rented the vehicle from Adams Car Rentals.

He said he reversed the vehicle into his property but had trouble taking out the key. He then went inside to load the van when he heard a noise and saw the vehicle crashing through his gate and into the ocean, sustaining extensive damage on the way as well as water damage.

Maria Lashley, who took this picture, said she was having a swim at the Oistins, Christ Church beach around 7:10 a.m. when she heard that a hired vehicle had rolled into the water from someone's driveway.

She quickly went home, grabbed her camera then returned to the scene.

It took a team effort of more than ten people armed with a rope to get the vehicle back where it belonged – on dry land.

A representative from Adams Car Rentals said: "We do not normally comment on our losses. This is not the first car of ours to fall into the sea.

"About ten years ago another one fell in and we did not get anything, as we usually insure our vehicles with third party insurance." (CA)
