two-day trial matches in preparation for this year's TCL Group WICB Under-19 Tournament were held over the weekend.

There were eight half-centuries and one five-wicket haul as players got down to business to stake a claim for a place in the Barbados side.

At Weymouth "A", Aubrey Towler's XI made 338 on Saturday, thanks mainly to a fine 96 from six-footer Jason Holder and 50s by Antonio Greenidge (60) and Laurando Best (50). Off-spinner Armani Best took five for 40.

In reply Jomel Warrican's XI compiled a huge 378 from 103 overs after losing three wickets for only three runs. Opener Chad Proverbs and all-rounder Adrian Caddle made 88 and 82, respectively, while wicketkeeper/batsman Shane Dowrich hit 71.

Proverbs, who retired twice with cramp, counted seven fours off 139 balls in 220 minutes. Caddle was ninth out after striking ten fours from 143 deliveries, while Dowrich occupied the crease for 157 minutes, hitnine boundaries and faced 135 balls.

Leg-spinner Best claimed four for 71 from 22 overs to climax a good all-round game, while and fast bowler Jared Bernadin bagged three for 26 from 11.

At Queen's Park, after an excellent first day when Peter Clarke's XI made 323, the batsmen faltered on the final day. Dario Sargeant's XI were dismissed for 184. Only Jamal Phillips with an undefeated 44, Andre Roach 36 and Renaldo Brathwaite 32 made worthwhile scores.

There were two wickets each to Grantleigh Burnham and Roston Chase for 17 and 23, respectively.

In their second turn at the crease, Clarke's XI were shot out for a paltry 93. Chad Clarke-Reifer, bowling left-arm orthodox spin, was the main destroyer with four for 25 from 13.3 overs.

Fast bowler Jamal Phillips had the first two wickets in two balls including Micah St Hill for 19 and Roston Chase for a first-ball "duck".
