Bajans crush Leeward Islands
Published on: 3/19/08.

ROSEAU, Dominica – Guided by a superb hundred from Kraigg Brathwaite, Barbados humiliated Leeward Islands by a whopping 170 runs to register their second straight win in the 2008 CLICO West Indies Under-15 Cricket Competition yesterday.

Brathwaite, who was the MVP in last year's tournament with 261 runs, stroked 109 – his 27th career century – as Barbados amassed 247 for seven from their 50 overs at Grand Bay.

In response, Leewards, who also lost to Jamaica in the opening round, were skittled out for a miserly
77 in 20.3 overs.

They slipped to 29 for three as the medium-pacers started the slide. Akeem Saunders with 28 and Rahkeem Cornwall 12 put up some resistance with a third-wicket stand of 28. Once the stand was broken it was all downhill again.

Spin was the main demise as the last seven wickets fell to the spinners for just 30 runs in 10.2 overs.

Left-arm orthodox, Shane Parris, picked up his second three-wicket haul (3 for 18) from six overs. Meanwhile, debutant Sean Thornton also had (3 for 6) off 3.2 overs with his off-breaks.

Summarised scores:

Barbados 247 for 7 in 50 overs (Kraigg Brathwaite 109, Kyle Mayers 47, Anthony Alleyne 29, Sean Thornton 11 not out; Jeffrey Adams 3 for 8). Leeward Islands 77 all out in 20.3 overs (Akeem Saunders 28, Rahkeem Cornwall 12; Sean Thornton 3 for 6,
Shane Parris 3 for 18). Barbados won by 170 runs.
