That was the question posed by Barbados Netball Association (BNA) president Octavia Gibson during the awards and opening ceremony in Lecture Theatre 1 at the Cave Hill Campus last Saturday.
"Barbados has fallen to 11th but what have you done to ensure the phoenix can rise again? Have you adopted a professional attitude
to the local responsibilities, recognising that this impacts on the international ranking?" Gibson asked.
She said it was easy to point fingers, but those involved in the sport also had to give more.
Speaking on the theme Feed The Circle, Gibson drew an analogy from the game, which said the strength of the centre court and the defence were worth nothing if the shooters weren't fed the ball.
"In the same manner if we take netball Barbados as a circle, unless we develop and nourish our national programmes, our domestic programmes, our partnerships and development programmes, then we cannot shoot for success.
"If we truly love netball, if we love Barbados, we will demonstrate this in our response to the administration, playing, coaching, education and in the giving of resources for the sport," Gibson said.
The president also announced that the national programme would be launched in two weeks since the contracts and appointments were all in place. She said greater emphasis would be placed on statistics this year, and prizes would be awarded in non-traditional categories next year.
Special awards were presented to former BNA president Annette Beckett, former public relations officer Christopher Alleyne, and Carlos Lovell for their contribution to netball.
Pine Hill St Barnabas and Unity Stars took the bulk of the league awards.
