Oistins salutes fisherfolk
Published on: 6/30/05.

AS PART OF FISHERMAN'S WEEK, the folk in Oistins, Christ Church, paid homage to those who made it a vibrant fishing community.

Those with over 30 years in the industry were given certificates of appreciation.

Well-known and outspoken boat owner and vendor Berinda Cox, along with Lionel Callender, Irena Gibson, Thelma Yarde, Ercilla Kinch, Marjorie Murrell and Eliza Holder, who passed away on Monday, were all remembered for their contributions to fishing and the assistance they gave other fisherfolk over the years.

The fishing community also held their customer appreciation day and the food and drinks flowed freely from the fishmarket.

There was dancing, modelling, skits and even a performance by "mother sally", done by the fisherfolk and market workers.

Conch shell blowers Renald Price and Alistair Forde remembered their colleagues lost at sea.
