Milk and honey for trainer John
Published on: 3/25/08.

FRESH MILK was flowing in abundance at the Garrison yesterday and her trainer Boston John was as lethal as ever.

And why? It's because John was successful in two of the day's three feature races, as Fresh Milk cleverly won The Michael Parravicino Memorial Hopeful Breeders' Stakes & Trophy and that was the icing on the cake for him, as he had earlier won The Realtors Limited Trophy Condition with Lethal Liesel.

Fresh Milk, expertly ridden by Paul Leacock, was produced at the right time to snatch victory from the front-running Exploding Lady in the day's main feature race.

Ward pushed Exploding Lady into the lead from the off and she was at the head of affairs when they passed the stands for the first time. She was followed by Golden Nugget (Jono Jones), Vandross (Louis-Phillipe Beuzelin), Fresh Milk and Gudfridie.

The positions remained unchanged going down the backstretch although Royal Emblem (Luana Lalung) and Zoom (Antonio Bishop) also came into contention.

The William Clarke-trained Exploding Lady, despite still having Golden Moon "breathing down her neck", looked the likely winner when she brought the horses into the homestretch a final time in the 1 570 metres event.

As the field straightened up for home, Golden Nugget started to feel the pressure and weakened and it was at this stage that Leacock produced Fresh Milk.

The McDonald Stephenson-owned filly quickened when asked a question by her jockey and she caught Exploding Lady close to home to register a clever victory.

The "Lady" held on for second position while her stablemate Royal Emblem, with Luana Lalung up, stayed on well to finish third as Golden Nugget weakened into fourth.

Lethal Liesel, with apprentice Kenny John in the irons, as expected easily won The Realtors Limited Trophy Condition, the first of the day's three feature races.

John pushed the filly into the lead from the off and it was all over "bar the shouting".

Who's Groovy (Jason Leacock) and a 65 to one outsider ran on well to finish second while Wash Brook (Paul Leacock) finished third.

John Brian, which finished second to Pure Temptation in the March 1 Sandy Lane Gold Cup, had a consolation win yesterday as he blew away his four other opponents in the day's other main race, The Palm Beach Trophy Handicap.

Andy Ward tried to make all the running on Primed 'N'Loaded, but Anderson Trotman aboard John Brian sent the Liz Deane-trained colt into the lead about 300 metres out and from that stage the rest were playing catch-up.

John Brian won as he pleased while stablemate Favorite Player (Rocco Bowen), who tried to make a race of it at the bottom of the homestretch, finished a clear second. Morethanawomen (Johnathan Grant) came from a long way back to snatch third position from the early leader.

Ward was the day's most successful jockey with three wins. These came on the Richard Deane-trained Legally Blonde in Division "A" of The Point Of View Trophy Condition; Kingdora in The Windward Trophy Condition; and Bouncebak in The Happy Trees Trophy Condition.

Kenny John was the only other jockey to land more than one winner, as he scored on Lethal Liesel and the Haydn Nicholls-trained Uncle Jerry in Division "B" of The Point Of View Trophy Condition.
