BOARD MEMBERS OF THE BARBADOS CRICKET ASSOCIATION (BCA) will not be paid for their attendance at meetings and services rendered to the body.

President Tony Marshall was forced to withdraw a resolution, seeking to pay fees to members for their attendance at meetings when the BCA held its annual general meeting at Sherbourne Conference Centre last week.

Members vociferously spoke out against the resolution noting that BCA board members had accepted voluntary positions but were now seeking to pay themselves.

However, at least, two board members distanced themelves from the resolution, saying they were not in favour of it.

The board also came under attack for not renewing the contract of Ricky Craig as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the association.

Members asked why it was taking so long to hire a new CEO after the president had publicly stated that a CEO would be in place by last February.

Furthermore, it was asked why some new board members, who had no direct knowledge of the CEO's performance, could vote immediately after their election for his dismissal.

Two board members, Joel Garner and Conde Riley also told the meeting they had no input in the annual report as it had not been seen or reviewed by the board before it was circulated.

In another matter, Senator Gregory Nicholls criticised the association's decision to defer promotion and relegation for two years.

He noted it was disadvantaging junior clubs like Bristol and Dover.

Nicholls, who now plays for Intermediate side, Malvern, said the BCA seemed to have a bias against smaller, lower division clubs who had been denied promotion despite consistently dominating their competitions.

He also said no valid reason had been given for the UWI to be elevated to Division 1 ahead of other clubs.
