ICBL near $100m capital
Published on: 3/30/08.

THE INSURANCE CORPORATION of Barbados Limited (ICBL), which started in 1978 with a capital base of $5 million, ended 2007 with its capital base just under $100 million.

General manager of the company, Wismar Greaves, highlighted this "significant growth" yesterday at the company's 30th anniversary service, held at the Black Rock Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Greaves said ICBL had enhanced national development by reducing outflows to foreign insurance companies and was eternally grateful for what God had done.

In extending the greetings of the Eastern Caribbean Conference of Seventh-Day Adventists, the president, Pastor David Beckles, said the church had benefited from lots of vsrious insurance coverage over the years, including property, motor and liability, with reasonable premiums in a cordial and harmonious working relationship.

"I would wish to challenge you to continue to provide for the people of this nation the same excellent service you would have given clients for the last 30 years. I want God to walk with you because we know that through him comes all the successes that any man, woman or organisation could want for," Beckles said.

Pastor Leslie Padmore, in delivering the sermon Blessed Assurance, said all insurance companies were needed and while they provided coverage for this life, there was a need for second coverage – for the life thereafter – and the only person who could provide it was God.

He said God gave heavenly assurance with all-inclusive coverage.

"Some companies, when you invest in them and something happens, they tell you you didn't read the fine print. You don't have to read the fine print with God, everything is in bold. God not only promises but he delivers," said Padmore.

The ICBL choir worshipped in song with Thanks and The Power Of Love. The company, through Assistant General Manager Rosita Heletsi, presented the church with a donation towards purchasing a bus.

The church also presented a number of gifts from ICBL to the visitors. (WB)
