CARIBBEAN AIRLINES has a 90 per cent on-time performance in the region.

Regional general manager for Barbados and Antigua, Gatesworth James, told a Trinidad Road show held on Thursday at Accra Beach Hotel, that since the change in January they have been doing well.

He said the airline now operated 14 services between Trinidad and Barbados every week but were looking to enhance it.

"I'm putting out a challenge that if by the end of this week we can be turning over 500 seats from Barbados to Trinidad we would be doing this promotion justice," he said.

The annual roadshow, which is sponsored by the Tourism Development Company Limited (TDC) brings several elements of the twin island republic's culture to Barbados to introduce to travel agents and other tourism players.

Pat Christopher, vice-president legal corporate services for TDC – said tourism was important for Trinidad, as it was one of the critical areas in the country's economic diversification.

She said Barbados was one of the largest Caribbean markets and that was why they extended this year's show to two days.

Jason Baptiste, marketing manager of TDC said they were looking to increase the number of hotel rooms and attractions for visitors from Barbados and the Caribbean who were coming to do business or just for leisure.

Representatives from a number of hotels, restaurants and magazines attended the road show. (WB)
