Welch and his Barbadian colleagues Rickey Walcott and Desmond Bryan shared three wins on Saturday's card at the end of which Welch had 16 wins for the new season, nine clear of Walcott and Shannon Beauregard, who are joint second on seven wins.
In Saturday's six-furlong third race worth CAN$15 892 (BDS$27 020), Welch skilfully used a rail-run aboard the 3-to-1 chance Captain Creek to win by a neck.
He stalked the leaders down the backstretch while Walcott led the nine-horse field with the 5-2 favourite Big Sky River.
Captain Creek collared Big Sky River in deep stretch and snatched a narrow win in one minute 10.60 seconds as Welch added to double wins he had posted on the previous two cards last Wednesday and Friday.
Walcott rebounded with a win in the next race, taking the CAN$27 871 (BDS$47 380) fourth race over six furlongs astride the six-year-old gelding Fuhr One.
After a slow start, Walcott rallied the 3-1 second favourite with a fast finish to score a 1-1/2 length victory in 1:10.00.
Bryan got his third win of the new season and moved up to ninth in the jockeys' standings by winning the eighth race aboard the 10-1 chance Pacific Force.
He came from behind with the three-year-old gelding and won by 1-1/4 lengths. (CMC)
