Vicious dog put to sleep

THE AKITA DOG which attacked and injured two small children on Monday has been put to sleep.

Officials at the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) confirmed yesterday that they carried out the procedure on the fully-grown dog which had suffered a number of injuries during the incident at 1st Avenue, Goodland, St Michael.

Meanwhile, four-year-old Darrell-Ann Jones was reported to be recovering after she was detained in the Children's Ward of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Darrell-Ann suffered a fractured skull and partially severed ear, while her brother, six-year-old Davian, was treated and discharged after he was bitten on the hip.

Jeffrey "Top Cat" Walcott was also injured on the right hand and shoulder after he attempted to rescue the two Deacons Primary School students from the dog's attack. (TS)
