It RAINED GOALS in the Digicel-sponsored Waterhall versus Wintershall polo final at the Waterhall grounds in St James on Saturday.

Twenty goals were scored in a match that lasted five chukkas. In the end it was six goals from Jamie Dickson and five from Jack Kidd, of Waterhall, that sealed the match for the home team.

For Wintershall, Tom Morley, a professional five-goal player was also in a no-nonsense mood as he drilled six goals past the Waterhall bars, in addition to two from his teammate Ross Ainsley and one from Frane Hurtley.

The first chukka ended with Waterhall leading by two goals to one. Dickson and Kidd scored one each, while Hurtley scored the lone goal for Wintershall. In the second chukka, Dickson blasted home two more goals in quick succession for his team, including a 60-yard penalty, while Ainsley opened his account with the only goal scored by his team in the chukka.

Waterhall continued to pressure the defence of the British team and it was not long before Dickson broke the back of their defence to slot home two more goals. Kidd also added another during this run of play.

With Wintershall sensing the game slowly drifting away, Morley quickly stepped up to the plate and penetrated the home team's defence to score the first two
of his six goals in the match. The third chukka
ended 7-4 in favour
of Waterhall.

Chukka number four saw Kidd finding the back of the visitor's goal post on two occasions. However Wintershall returned the favour by scoring a similar number to end the chukka trailing Waterhall by three goals with the scoreboard reading 9-6.

Playing in overcast conditions and with rain constantly looming, the final chukka got underway with both teams determined to make one final burst. Dickson was awarded a 60-yard penalty which he duly converted. Kidd also got back into the act scoring his fifth goal of the match. Morley continued to play like the five-goal handicap player that he is, and finished off the game with a flurry of goals. But it was too little too late. The fat lady had already started to exercise her vocal chords.

Final scores were Waterhall 11, Wintershall 9 and another international team had bitten the dust at Waterhall.
