IT VIRTUALLY RAINED GOALS when the Barbados Olympic Association/National Sport Council's netball series continued at the Netball Stadium, Waterford, St Michael, on Wednesday.
In the six games played in the afternoon a whopping 285 goals were scored between the 12 teams by the end of the final whistle.
Leading the goal glut in the King Zone Division 2 were the Cavaliers Shotters with 45 goals against the FirstCaribbean Police Girls who finished with 40 goals in an action-packed game.
For the Shotters, Astrid Alleyne scored 20 goals from 31 attempts and Sheryl Piggott scored 25 from 42. Leading the charge for the Police Girls, Heather Belle had 32 from 38 and Tricia Gregoire eight from 15.
The Cavs shot to an early lead finishing the first quarter with a 14-six advantage and were always ahead in the game. The second quarter ended 22-11. In the third quarter the Police upped their tempo in their quest to close in on the Shotters, but still ended that quarter trailing 26-32.
In the final quarter the police team finally came out blazing but it was too little too late as they were out-gunned by the Shotters.
In the Sinckler Division 4 series Newbury Tropic Ice got the better of Banks Spurs defeating them 18-15. Beverley Marsh netted 13 from 18 and Kimberley Bowen had 5 from 10 for the tropic Ice ladies. For Spurs Alicia Lashley's 7 from 10 and Kelly Ann Knight's 8 goals from 13 tries were insufficient to gain the win.
In the Sealy Intermediate Division 3 match which pitted Guardian Pride of Villa against Bico Delight, it was definitely no delight for Bico who were beaten 36-22 by Villa.
Goal attack Sharon Cox had 19 from 27 and Latonia Blackman 17 from 23 for the Villa girls, while for Bico Deborah Kellman scored 19 from 26 attempts and Joan Maynard chipped in with three from six.
In the second game of the Sinckler Intermediate Division 4 girls, Brydens V8 Splash edged out Sports & Games 24-20. Tonisha Rock-Yaw, just back from the Under-16 Caribbean championships in Antigua, had a solid game scoring 18 of her 25 attempts.
Deborah Brathwaite had six from eight tries for Brydens while Charlene Mathurin scored 12 from 18 and Tashira Beckles eight from 12 for Sports & Games.
In the closest and most exciting game of the night, one goal separated the Pinehill St Barnabas and Spooners Hill teams with the former winning 33-32. Marvalene Neblett netted 16 of her 21 tries and Laticia Thorne scored 17 from her 23 attempts for St Barnabas.
Lydia Bishop, one of the island's premier players over the years, enjoyed an excellent game for Spooners Hill, scoring 19 from 22 attempts. Her teammates Renee Rudder and Natalie Bayley had five from six and eight from 14 respectively.
In the second game of the Sealy Intermediate Division 3, Unity Stars failed to shine and were soundly trashed 4220 by Brydens Splash.
For Brydens, goal shooter Andrea Puckerin and Kelly Ann Harper were the real stars of the night with an almost 100 per cent shooting average, scoring 31 of 32 and 11 of 12 attempts respectively.
Harriet Banfield was the only bright spark for the Unity Stars scoring 19 of her 20 tries.
