Assistance
The Guyanese component has been assisted for the last ten years by the Guyana Consulate in Barbados.
Consul Norman Faria said: "It is an honour and a pleasure to once again assist the Guyanese workers to join with their Barbadian comrades on this most auspicious and significant workers' holiday. We must always strive to build friendship and solidarity with our Barbadian sisters and brothers and underline the achievements of Guyanese workers in Barbados."
Faria said he regularly had cordial meetings with officials and attended functions of both the BWU and the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW).
The May Day activity in Barbados, while officially sponsored by the island's largest and oldest trade union body, also permits decorated floats and other contingents from private sector firms where the union is represented. (PR)
