'Thrills' for Bushy Park
Published on: 8/28/06.

THE 2006 BARBADOS AUTO RACING LEAGUE Williams Industries International race meeting scheduled to come off at the Bushy Park racing circuit next Sunday seems set to be another Muhammad Ali/ George Foreman "Thrilla in Manila".

It is already being billed by many as David versus Goliath in a number of the groups. Whatever the outcome, the league's vice-chairman Mark Hinkson is optimistic that this year will see greater crowds than last year, when more than 25 000 attended.

While lots of attention will be focused on the big juice group, fans will be in for a treat with the ongoing friendly and not-so-friendly rivalry amongst other groups.

Kenrick "Snappa" Husbands in the NP Oils Hilti Toyota Starlet is out to settle a score with wonder boy Philip Moe.

Moe had gotten the better of "Snappa" in their last two encounters and is presently leading the group.

Sean Gill, in his newly acquired special works Suzuki Swift, will be hoping to get the better of Dave Hinds this time around in his flying Roxy Supermarket Toyota Starlet.

Trevor Whitehall versus Wayne Clarke, both competing in similar Mazda RX7s, should be another clash that creates fireworks.

Lone female competitor Natasha Farnum will have her hands full with the boys in group 1B and others.

Hinkson told the DAILY NATION that his committee was very pleased with the level of sponsorship and support the club has so far received from corporate Barbados for the event.

Sponsors generous

Hinkson added that this year a number of sponsors have donated products and special prizes to be distributed free to spectators, competitors and support staff.

Some of the items up for grabs are: rims, tyres, CD decks with MP3 players, oils, lubricants, a wide range of car accessories, free wheel alignments, safety shoes, food vouchers and mufflers.

Spectators will be asked to keep their ticket stubs and listen for the numbers to be drawn throughout the day. Winners are asked to collect their prizes during or at the end of the meet.
