Constable Nigel Walker trembled and wept as 22 charges were read to him by Deputy Chief Magistrate Mark Wellington.
Despite a promise by his lawyer that Walker would not run or interfere with the witnesses to testify against him, Wellington ruled that there would be no bail.
Walker's pregnant wife and parents stomped their feet and wailed in the public gallery, when the ruling was announced.
Walker was arrested last Saturday night when police set up roadblocks around San Fernando in response to a series of robberies.
His colleagues said Walker was mild-mannered, respectful and had been involved in several car chases where highway thieves were arrested.
He appeared in the San Fernando First Magistrates Court, yesterday, charged by Inspector Stephen Maynard.
Walker, of Orange Valley, Couva, was charged with shooting at police officers during an alleged car chase at Marabella, with the intent to do grievous bodily harm.
