MARVO MANNING, part-time lecturer with the Barbados Institute of Management and Productivity (BIMAP), this year takes the inaugural Loyal Daughter Award.
The award comes from the producers of the annual Mother's Day extravaganza Mum, This One's For You that comes off tomorrow at 5 p.m. at the Plantation Garden Theatre in St Lawrence, Christ Church.
Manning lectures in customer service, telephone etiquette, business etiquette and personal development.
She was Barbados' first beauty queen, winning the Jaycees Carnival Queen crown in 1964. So compelling was her charm and so distinct her talents, she became the trainer for contestants in the Independence Queen Shows for several years after the inaugural show in 1966.
In 1967 Manning started and became dean of Bristol Rangers Club's charm and social awareness and character-building courses.
In 1988 she was awarded the Barbados Service Star for meritorious work in broadcasting and her contribution to the arts; and in 2004 she received the NISE (National Initiative For Service Excellence) Award.
The lecturer now assists young people students and school leavers with personal development and guidelines for self-awareness. (PR/RDG)
