TRELAWNY, Jamaica Carlton Baugh's unbeaten 111 was the main stumbling block for the Australians on the first day of their tour match against a Jamaica XI, who were dismissed for 297 yesterday. Australia in reply reached 89 without loss at the close.
While his teammates struggled, Baugh, the former West Indies wicketkeeper, helped them out during an aggressive display.
Dropped on seven by Brad Haddin, who has replaced the retired Adam Gilchrist, Baugh punished the tourists and also made things difficult for Stuart MacGill in the second session. MacGill grabbed three wickets before lunch, when the Jamaica XI were 135 for 5, and Simon Katich and Stuart Clark chipped in after the break.
However, Baugh, who was hit on the helmet by Clark, launched a 78-run recovery with the No. 10 Gavin Wallace.
The home team won the toss and the first two breakthroughs came from Clark and Mitchell Johnson. Brenton Parchment, the captain, scored 25 as the Jamaica XI started with a 51-run partnership. Simon Jackson (29) and Xavier Marshall (30) also contributed.
