ACTIVITY AT THE Grantley Adams International Airport came in droves, and then in drizzles, yesterday evening as passengers arrived from their various destinations.
The flights were not delayed but the baggage claims seemed to be a big problem as some people were told their luggage could not be found, or they waited on the concourse.
The airlines which landed between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. included Virgin Atlantic, American Airlines, Delta and British Airways, bringing Barbadians living abroad, tourists, and students on semester break.
Some of them spoke with the SUNDAY SUN about the season.
Isalene Alleyne who lives in New Jersey came home to spend Christmas with her husband who lives here, and her daughter Fay came along.
Meanwhile Colin Brewer, chairman of Grantley Adams International Inc. greeted his younger brother Nye and sister Kate. The two who are both studying in England, said they wanted to come home and spend Christmas with him.
Meanwhile, dancers Sheila Apolinario and Charlese Jones from New York are in Barbados for the first time at the invitation of a Barbadian friend.
"We know we will have fun but we will feel guilty about leaving family at home," said Jones.
One lady from Florida who would not give her name, said she comes every July, but this was her first Christmas in 25 years.
Clodec Johnson is home for her first Christmas in five years and can't wait to see the lights at the roundabouts.
Meanwhile, Dale Broome and her brother Keasel are home for a family reunion.
Dale who brought along her two sons Mario and Malik said four other siblings from abroad will also be here; two have arrived already and two more will be coming in tomorrow.
Clad in red to celebrate the season which she loves, she said it will be about old times.
"It will be about rekindling childhood Christmas memories. It is also very cold in Delaware," she said.
She was not the only one coming for the sunshine; lots of tourists said that was their reason for coming every Christmas.
