Larsen execs to check on Oval

WORK ON THE re-development of Kensington Oval project will come under review this week.

Two senior executives of Larsen & Toubro, general contractors on the re-development of Kensington Oval project, are due in Barbados tomorrow for a three-day visit to get an update of the progress of construction works.

They are General Manager Bhaskara Raju and his deputy Venketa Praveen.

Kensington Oval is being re-developed for the Cricket World Cup 2007, the final of which will be held there.

Larsen & Toubro was at the centre of public attention, recently, when it brought 14 Indian workers here to work on the project, but they were subsequently deported because they did not have work permits.

Efforts to recruit workers both locally and across the region have since been undertaken and last week it was reported that Barbados could end up bringing in 64 Indian construction workers for the project.

The Indian workers to be recruited are steel formwork specialists not available here or elsewhere in the region. They are required to work on the showpiece of the project, the Challenor Stand. (ES)
