Jones: We'll take high road

BARBADIANS CAN REST ASSURED the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) will carry out its promises in a "legal and legitimate way".

Ronald Jones, who is serving his second term as the DLP representative for Christ Church East Central, was speaking to the SUNDAY SUN
as he and party faithful, all wearing shirts proclaiming I Wid DEM and I Wid Ron, took to the streets yesterday in celebration of his win in the January 15 general election.

He said he was "extremely satisfied" with the results.

"The people recognised it was time for the Barbados Labour Party to quit. We had a solid message which we now have to deliver and let people know how we plan to unfold our programmes," he said.

To the strains of Soka Junkie and election jingles, the motorcade passed through areas such as Water Street, Thornbury Hill and Edey Village, surprising none other than Prime Minister David Thompson in Windy Ridge who was "running an errand".

The procession stopped and people called for Thompson to join them. When he did, he was hugged by supporters and also posed for pictures.

Both Jones and Thompson said they had no idea the other was going to be there at that time, but the chance meeting added another level to the celebrations as Thompson's praises were shouted from the loudspeakers before the procession moved on – without the Prime Minister, who still had his errand to run.
