Qualifying competition for the International Tennis Federation (ITF) sanctioned tournament will start on Saturday with 32 players contesting six remaining slots in the Boys' Under-18 main draw.
The tournament, which is attracting both male and female players in Under-18 and Under-14 divisions, is hosted by the Barbados Tennis Association and will be played on hardcourts.
Twelve Barbadians are among an international field contesting the qualifiers which will also see Nigeria's Thomas Otu, ranked 942 in the world, and Japanese players Yuta Hirokawa (1 505) and Yuki Muramatsu in action.
A number of local players are already in the main draw, either by virtue of their international rankings or by wild cards, and include Darian King, Devard Wharton, Seanon Williams, Renaldo Gibson, Jerome Dixon and Hasani Stewart.
King, Barbados' top junior with an international ranking of 377, and Wharton (699) are the island's best prospects and will be hoping to improve their performances at home, following a tough outing this week at the IBM International in Trinidad where they both reached the round of 16.
The Barbados tournament, which forms part of the Caribbean circuit for ITF junior competitions, has reverted to its traditional Easter slot after the 2007 tournament was played last October.
It was shifted to late in the year because of the hosting of Cricket World Cup matches in Barbados, but lost none of its appeal as scores of players had to be turned back.
Last year's Under-18 division was won by American Alberto Bautista, who defeated fellow American Junior Ore, 6-4, 6-7, 6-1.
The girls' equivalent was won by 16-year-old Irina Ramialison of Martinique, who took the title with a 6-4, 6-4 win over American Noel Scott.
