KIM DERRICK is back in the Crop-Over mix for 2008.
Derrick, who took a break from calypso seven years ago, is looking to rock the fetes with a ragga soca track titled Gimme Some.
For the past four years she sat on the panel with the Party Monarch judges, but she is ready to be back in the thick of things.
"I had just gotten married. I had kids to look after and I was more focused on family. Yes, my career was continuing to happen with the band, and we toured a lot. But I tried not to split myself up too much that it would keep me away from my kids for too long.
"But they're old enough now. Iman is 14 and Thomas is nine, and they're very much supportive of me and my career so that's why I feel so comfortable doing it again," the former Richard Stoute Teen Talent winner explained.
Soca bug
Now that she has been reinfected with the soca bug, she intends to be contributing to Crop-Over every year from now on.
"I am back, definitely. And looking forward to it. I've got a lot of different ideas and I'm being creative . . . I think it's time that I re-emerge on the scene," she stated.
In addition to Wednesday night performances at Club NXS with her band Virtuosity, Derrick expects to be making appearances at a number of fetes, which are being negotiated by management at Al-Hart Productions.
Gimme Some was co-written by the Red Boyz and Terry Arthur, produced by the Red Boyz and mixed by Deepu Panjwani.
