ONE of the oldest and best known of fisherfolk had a belated celebration of a great milestone yesterday.

Retired fish vendor Berinda "Baby Doots" Cox, who turned 91 on Monday, was honoured by the Oistins community yesterday.

Member of Parliament of the Christ Church South and Minister of Transport, Works and International Transport John Boyce presented Cox with a fruit basket and a bouquet of flowers at her Welches, Christ Church residence.

The former vendor, who spent 65 years in the industry, was all smiles as she reminisced with daughter Margaret and granddaughter Nekol about the "old days".

"For all these years I've been selling fish when fish was one for a cent, and now I have lived long enough to see fish sell at $6 a pound," said Cox.

She recalled how she helped "hundreds and hundreds people to sell fish at all hours". (JM)
