Acting elections boss to be picked today
Published on: 5/7/08.
KINGSTON, Jamaica An acting director of elections will be selected by the Electoral Commission of Jamaica (ECJ) today at the weekly meeting of commissioners, to replace director Danville Walker who resigned yesterday.
ECJ chairman Professor Errol Miller has said Walker's departure will not cause a problem in the event a by-election or general election is called since the Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) is required to be prepared for any eventuality.
He said Walker's replacement would be chosen from the senior management team of the EOJ.
"What you can expect is that the commission will discuss the matter on Wednesday [today]. I'm sure we will follow what is standard practice and then we will go through the whole process of advertising and so. But that will take a little while," he said. (CMC)
