A second offshore medical school wants to begin operating in Barbados.
Coming on the heels of the recent launch of the American University of Barbados, School of Medicine, in Wildey, St Michael, Attorney General Adriel Brathwaite said in New York yesterday that another foreign-owned and operated medical school had approached the Government and was negotiating with the Ministry of Education to open its classrooms in the country.
“We are [also] working on the lease for the old St Joseph Hospital complex,” said Brathwaite. “We see medical tourism as an area that should bring significant benefits to us.”
The Attorney General was attending the annual Barbados Family Day organized by the Friends of Barbados Association – the branch of the ruling Democratic Labour Party in the United States. He said that the second offshore medical school would fit into Government’s plans for the emergence of a strong medical tourism sector as part of the international business arena.”
