Football ‘a new industry’

FOOTBALL CAN score big goals in economic growth.

At the closing ceremony of the UEFA Coach Educators Course at the Usain Bolt Sports Complex yesterday, president of the Barbados Football Association Randy Harris said the 17 coaches who completed the course were at the forefront in the sports’ development into a major Caribbean industry.

“Those who completed the course are pioneers for the new industry for Caribbean football. I see football as providing a new avenue for employment and for a very powerful industry that could create employment in a lot of different ways,” he said.

Harris said with the increasing concerns regarding the level of unemployment throughout the Caribbean, the knowledge which was imparted to the coaches over the two-week programme was significant in exploring an alternative option to gain income. (RG)
