Wed, September 29, 2010 - 5:45 PM

5:40 p.m. Wednesday Sept. 29, 2010 - An 18-wheeler truck flipped on its top and blocked a section of the ABC Highway just outside the Grantley Adams International Airport this evening.

Luckily no one was seriously injured. Driver Winston Hinds was, however, taken away by the Queen Elizabeth Hospital ambulance for a slight injury to his elbow.

Officials are now using a mobile crane to put the 18-wheeler back on its wheels.

There is also a slight oil spill and workers are sanding the area to to prevent any other accidents. (CM)

It is fairly unclear how this accident happened but what I can say is that as far as these particular vehicles they are being driven too fast on our roads

i always wonder how some of these trailers and trucks get on the road , we offten see some of these with almost bald and damaged tires , no working tail lights , trailers twisted and more often it seems like the drivers want to push you off the road with their speed , we also need to look at the trucks that carry concrete that soll it all over the hi way but you know what ? peole with money own these things and they dont get touch in this island

Those 18 wheelers pose a great danger for other road users. Some of the drivers of those trucks are very reckless on the roads. They have no respect or regards for other road users. Thank GOD that no one was injured in this incident. Look at some of the tires on this truck. Shhhhhuuuuupppeeee.

I’m in total agreement with the negative comments about the tires on the 18 wheeler. Additionally, I have always questioned the wisdom of having vehicles that size on the roads in Barbados. Those are long haul vehicles suited for carrying large load on dedicated roads in the USA, and there is no need for them given the narrow roads and relatively short distances to travel in Barbados

We in this country would never get it right no matter what, imagine you leave home and before you can arrive at your destination one of your tail lights went out unknown to you ,one would hear police sirens blaring and lights flashing to give the impression that there is a horrible accident up the road ahead of you but to be pulled over by police for this broken light and heavy duty trucks are allowed to drive around at great speeds accompanying laden containers with tire tracks that resembles nothing more banana plant leaves and they go by unchecked tsk tsk

Barbados is coral…and cannot much longer withstand the asphalt jungle that is being built upon it. 18-wheelers, flyovers, large vehicles and the like are going to destroy the landscape. and when it all caves in, then what?
