You won Digicel Rising Stars. What did that contract entail?
I did not receive a contract. I received a cash prize of Ten Thousand US dollars, a cellphone from Digicel a record single and music video.
Are you where you want to be in your music career?
I will say that I am closer to where I want to be, not quite there as yet.
Who are your music idols?
My music idols are, John Legend, Bob Marley, Edwin Yearwood, Barrington Levy, Rihanna, Alicia Keys and the list can go on.
You had a song with Rihanna “Dem Haters”. How did that come about?
The song with Rihanna and I came about with the help of Sandy and Cherie Pitt, and Ronnie Morris Producer of The BMA’s. Sandy and Cherie asked Evan Rogers to listen to me while he was at the HIlton.
I sang my favorite song at that time by John Legend. Ronnie Morris then gave me the opportunity to showcase on the first ever Barbados Music Awards show, where some people from Def Jam were present along with Evan Rogers, and they also loved my performance and gave me the opportunity to be featured on Rihanna’s album .
Wikipedia says you are signed to international label Def Jam. True?
I was never singed to Def Jam.
You were at John Legend’s concert and you met him. Explain both experiences.
This would have been my second time seeing John Legend and everytime I see him perform it’s always a mind blowing experience and also very uplifting. Meeting him was an awesome experience.
I cannot even describe how it felt, but it’s also a lesson to anyone who has dreams to never stop dreaming.
Once I only had dreams of meeting my idol, someone who has encouraged me and motivated me and it came through. It was a fantastic experience and one I would never forget.
Any plans for an album?
Definitely. When it is ready there will be an announcement.
