$80m call for funding

THE LOCAL SMALL BUSINESS SECTOR needs to be capitalized to the tune of at least $80 million.
So says parliamentary secretary in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs Jepter Ince, who stressed that allocations of $1 million to $2 million per year were “a waste of time”.
“It has nothing to do with politics. It has nothing to do with administrations in office.
“We have not paid attention to the significance of small businesses in Barbados.
“What we have done is that we have created a number of small funds all over the place. I call it economic confusion,” he said last Thursday during a seminar hosted by the Small Business Association (SBA) and the Barbados Stock Exchange on Exploring Equity Financing, at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.
