SHE came from St Vincent. Young, unpretentious and quiet; just keen on making a living here. Sadly, Kellisha Olliviere’s quest on establishing herself in Barbados ended after four years when she perished in a raging fire in Tudor Street, The City, Friday night at her workplace Campus Trendz. Olliviere, 24, came to Barbados in 2006 and lived in Wellington Street, on the outskirts of the capital Bridgetown with her aunt Althea Hadaway.Hadaway, her only relative in Barbados, could not fight back the tears when a SUNDAY SUN team visited her home yesterday.
Good girl “She was a good girl, quiet and fun-loving. She was serious about her work. This is really hard,” said Hadaway. The last time Hadaway saw her niece alive was just before 9 a.m. on Friday when she left for work.Hadaway has hardly slept or eaten since the Bridgetown blaze that also took the lives of five other young women.Olliviere’s best friend Natasha Burgin broke down when she visited the fire scene.“We were real close. This is tough. Kellisha was a good girl.”Another friend, Tamara Coward, was equally visibly shaken.“I can’t believe that someone would commit a robbery and then burn down the building as well. That’s cruel.”Member of Parliament for The City Patrick Todd visited the family and offered his condolences. Todd made a plea for better street lighting in The City and increased police patrols.Todd said he also wanted to see an end to businesses having the one entrance/exit. “Public safety and the safety of the employees of these stores must be paramount, and we must stop at nothing to ensure that these best practices are rigorously adhered to.”
