BARBADOS are on the cusp of yet another regional Under-13 cricket title. The reigning champs survived their first real test of the St Kitts Festival before cruising to a 54-run victory over Bermuda at the Edgar Gilbert Sporting Complex to set up today’s championship decider against joint leaders Nevis. It was the Bajans’ fifth victory in as many games, putting them on a maximum ten points with Nevis, who will host Barbados at the Elquemedo Willett Sports Complex in a virtual final.Batting first after losing the toss, the champs initially struggled to get the ball through a waterlogged infield and limped to 117 for six off their allotted 25 overs.Akil Greenidge topscored with 34, while opener Leniko “The Butcher” Boucher laboured for 27 after battling to get the ball off the square for much of his innings. But Bermuda fared even worse, never coming to grips with Deswin “Spiderman” Currency and were eventually shot out for 63 in 21.2 overs. The Bermudians were fairly well placed on 45 for three before the left-arm orthodox spinner grabbed three quick wickets to start the collapse.Sachin Clarke, Dominic Drakes, Hasani Newton and debutant Limar Pierce took one wicket apiece.Summarised scores:Barbados 117-6 in 25 overs (Akil Greenidge 34, Leniko Boucher 27, Nicholas Kirton 18, Sachin Clarke 11; Christian Gibbons-Wade 2-22). Bermuda 63 in 21.2 overs (Khairi Uoyiano 14, Alex Dore 11, Deray Rawlins 11; Deswin Currency 3-14). Barbados won by 54 runs. (JM)
